While I was selecting and taking photos for this exercise, I noticed how different images look when you're focusing on just one single aspect. I took a lot of different photos for this exercise, but ended up posting these that I took on other occasions, but of which I find that they show the colours more than in the (boring) still lives I took.
The reader says that you really have to take your time in learning how to define colours. It's true that nature itself already covers the entire range on colours, but often they were small details of a bigger image, so not really useful for this exercise.
I took this image with different exposures, but realized that a lot of the different shades of green are already visible. From yellowish to darker green. The green that's closest to the secondary colour on the ring is the darkest shade of green. The other shades tend more towards yellow.
The shirt, the colour of the shades in the wrinkles and the yellow of the ball all are different kinds of yellow, of which the yellow on the ball tends more to green and the shades toward orange. The yellow on which the sun shines most directly comes closest to the primary colour.
I wanted to show different exposures on the colour orange. As you can see, the more light is reflected, the more the colour tends toward yellow with orange shades, while the darker image is orange with more brownish shades.
The colour of these tomatoes get close to the primary red on the scale. Although the hue tends a bit towards orange in the lighter part, I still think it's as red as it gets.
Because of the sunlight behind the flower there are different shades of purple visible on the petals. I think the darkest spots reflect the primary colour most.
There are a lot of very striking other colours in this image, but I wanted to add it to this serie anyway because there are a lot of different types of blue. The skirt is tending towards green, the lighter blue of the plastic bowl is less saturated than the blue on the boat and the shirt the lady is wearing. The blue that comes closest to the primary blue is the blue on the right side of the boat, I think the blue of the shirt may just be a bit too dark.
